Cubs Tickets: Get them while they're still mildly lukewarm!
I've enthusiastically waited for this day to come every year for the last decade now. The day single game Cubs tickets went on sale became such a big deal to me I began taking the day off from work solely to focus on landing tickets to the games I wanted.
That's not the case any more.
In fact today I merely participated with the Virtual Waiting Room for mere amusement really. I've done it for so long it just seemed weird not to. But I had no real need. Because I bought my tickets yesterday on StubHub. While some poor schmucks were probably spending even more than the already exorbitant prices for tickets during the Cubs "special" pre-sale, I bought 10 bleacher seats for a game in July that even after taxes and fees still came out under face value. If you counted the 20% markup for the pre-sale I saved roughly $30 per ticket.
So instead of pissing around with today's VWR to only buy the maximum six tickets before waiting some more to buy the other four, I saved some money, bought them earlier, and didn't wasted hours of time doing so.
As of 1:00pm today I went in to the VWR and only waited 5 minutes before getting in. Not only that, I was still able to buy tickets to games that in previous years would've been long sold out at that point. Cubs vs. Cardinals on a Sunday. Cubs vs. White Sox on a Friday. Opening Freakin' Day! All still available tickets for them, and in bunches too, not just scatttered singles.
It seems the fans may finally be fed up. Increasing already inflated prices for an inferior product on the field may have reached a point of diminishing returns for the Cubs. Why bother buying tickets today when you could get them for cheaper anyway a couple weeks ago on StubHub? Why even bother buying them early on StubHub when you can just wait for midseason and buy tickets for half the face value or less?
The consumer votes with his wallet, and this time the Cubs are losing the election.
