Leave it to the Cubs to make Charlie Morton look like Doug frickin' Drabek.  After looking awesome over the weekend against Arizona the Cubs yet again are flailing in the middle of the week.  Hopefully something changes tonight.  I don't think I can take watching countless groundballs hit to Ronny Cedeno for another night.

The Cubs face Brian Burres on the mound tonight as they fight off a possible sweep.  Burres has only two starts under his belt so far this season, the longer outing going only 5.1 innings.  The horrible cynic in me says he goes longer than 5.1 tonight.  In checking his stats versus the Cubs in the past, Burres pitched one inning against them....2 years ago....when he was with the Orioles.  This does not bode well as it always seems the Cubs struggle mightily against pitchers they've never faced before.  I mean really, who scouts these opposing pitchers for them?

"Uh tonight you guys have to face Brian Burres.  Uh, he throws right-handed.  His favorite color is green, and Henry Blanco once got a hit off him in 2008."

Actually that may really be what Ron Santo says when Pat asks him to tell us about Burres on tonight's radio broadcast.

Our best hopes for tonight rest on the shoulders of Randy "Bulldog" Wells, who's no bullshit approach is just what this team needs to get things going again.  Come on Cubs.  You can't get swept by Pittsburgh.  You're not that bad.....

....I'd like to think.

Aw shit.  Burres is a lefty?  Baker hits lefties doesn't he?  Is he playing or is he still out with a burnt ass?
