PostHeaderIcon Castro called up, Cub fans already deem him a bust

How do you make a kneejerk reaction to being swept by the worst franchise in the National League?  Why by calling up your 20 year old #1 prospect, that's how.

It's been reported that Starlin Castro has been called up and will join the team in Cincinnati.  Is this move premature?  Maybe a little, but if by some chance he plays better defense than Theriot (he should) and hits decent enough, at least as far as shortstops go (only 6 NL starting shortstops currently bat over .260), then why the hell not call him up?  It can't get any worse than what we saw last night.

The move likely means Theriot shifts over to 2B with Fontenot backing him up.  Reports say that Chad Tracy is the odd man out and will head to AAA Iowa.

Best of luck to Castro as he makes his big league debut.  And please, I beg of you Cubs fans.  As cynical as I can be sometimes, let's just bag all the "another Felix Pie/Corey Patterson" nonsense alright?  He's yet to play a single major league game yet and I feel like in some folks' minds he's already destined to fail.  On the flipside, you ridiculously optimistic Cubs fans need to take your excitement down a notch.  Castro is not making this club into a contender overnight.  They still have plenty of issues to work out and one 20 year old shortstop isn't going to miraculously change that.
