PostHeaderIcon Cubs Win Despite Grabow's Attempt to Thwart Victory

God damn, the Cubs make me happy on the weekends.  If this going trend continues I should ready myself for them to get swept by Pittsburgh.  Oh who am I kidding?  Nobody gets swept by Pittsburgh!  Oh wait.....

Tom Gorzelanny once again pitched like his Baby Ruth bar was just out of reach.  Thankfully this time someone found the run support that came up missing his previous four starts.  Seriously, through five starts, this guy has a 2.48 ERA and 27 strikeouts in 29 innings pitch.  It's ridiculous that he has a 1-3 record right now.

Alfonso Soriano you son of a bitch!  It's been so long since we've seen you hit like this.  I don't think any player has run the gamut of emotions with me more.  All I know is, that when Soriano is locked in at the plate, he's a thing of beauty to watch hit.  Every home run you automatically know is gone as soon as it leaves the bat.

It's good to see the offense producing.  Theriot, Byrd, Soto, Fukudome, Soriano, and Fontenot all currently sport batting averages over .300 right now.  Unfortunately Derrek Lee is only batting .221 (but has a .342 OBP at least), and Aramis Ramirez has batting AIDS.

Marlon Byrd.  Sure he wasn't the sexiest free agent signing, but how can you not like him at this point?  Even on an off day the guy is giving it his all out there and seems to always have a positive attitude.  The world is a better place with Marlon Byrd in the outfield.  Attention Milton Bradley.  The Cubs fans aren't racist, we just hate frowny-face assholes that play like shit and blame everyone else for their misfortunes.

So the Cubs take three of four from the D-Backs thanks to good hitting, a shitty Arizona bullpen and some decent pitching from the Cub starters and bullpen, although John Grabow makes me die a little on the inside every time he gives up a run.  I mean, you knew he wouldn't be in long enough to give up 8 runs today, but even then I had a small feeling in the pit of my stomach that Grabow could blow such a large lead that I held off starting a blog post until the game was done and the Cubs for sure got the win.  And now that the win is in the books, and it's several hours later, and I'm drunk on red wine, here you go!

The Cubs are off tomorrow before they start their series in Pittsburgh on Tuesday.  Hopefully the ragtag starting rotation of the Pirates will give Aramis enough confidence to break out of this horrible slump and cure his batting AIDS once and for all.  If he can't recover and continues to struggle, maybe we can trade him back to Pittsburgh for Andrew McCutchen.  You can play third base, can't you Andrew?  How hard can it be?

Go Cubs!  If you don't like it, go watch fucking hockey!
