PostHeaderIcon Marlon Byrd: Clearly Delusional

Last week, Comcast Sports sat down with new Cubs centerfielder Marlon Byrd. (I was unable to find a link to the video. Instead, enjoy Byrd's first Spring Training at bat.) Wearing his PDiddy/Lady GaGa shades, Byrd said that he thinks the Cubs will score 900 plus runs and lead the division. He then went on to say that he believes in fairies, unicorns, and that Mike Fontenot is hiding a pot of gold somewhere. Just for some perspective, last year the Cubs scored 707 runs. Only the Yankees, the World Series champs, scored more than 900 runs, notching 915. Who led the Central Division last season? Not so fast there, Cardinal fans. The Brewers scored 785 runs, 55 more than the division champs.

I'm not saying all this to bag on Marlon Byrd. (Okay, maybe sort of). I dig his optimism and actually think he was a pretty decent signing. If he's gonna be crazy, I'm glad that he's in the 'Harmless Crazy' camp and not the 'Psychopathically Paranoid Crazy 'Camp. At least he didn't say that the Cubs are going to win the World Series this year. We all know how well that works out.
