PostHeaderIcon In Defense of Swearing

The other day on the e-mail thread, the other Exiles and I were talking about the legendary Johnny Cash, which prompted me to browse some of The Man in Black's works on Amazon. I noticed that Live at San Quentin had one 1-star review. Curious, I clicked on the review, expecting to find a critique of the music. Instead, I found that the reviewer was put off by the cursing on the record, which was recorded at a prison. This review is just a symptom of a wider problem, namely the pussification of America.

If you personally choose not to curse, that's okay. (Don't ask me to trust you, though). But I'm getting real damn tired about people taking offense over some colorful vocabulary when other people use it. Some 15 year old shit even started a No Cussing club last year and got to make the talk show circuit. Why? It's not like this kid is a hero of some kind or even interesting. He's even written a book. A motherfucking book about not cursing. It's enough to make me want to drop a flurry of f-bombs or puke up my innards.

I'm sorry, but when real life comes along and kicks you right in the nay-nays, saying "Oh sugar" or "fudge it" just doesn't cut it. Some situations just scream for the biggest, loudest "Fuck!" that you can muster. Sack up and curse like a grownup. The world isn't always pretty so don't hold back America! And if hearing curse words offends your delicate sensibilities, stay the hell away from me. If a few naughty words cause you to have a conniption fit, then I don't want to be any where near you in the event a real crisis breaks out. I'll be the one solving said crisis, muttering dirty words the whole fucking time.
