It looks like arm problems have once again derailed Angel Guzman's baseball career. This really sucks and not just because the Cubs' bullpen is decidedly better with a healthy Guzman setting up Carlos Marmol. Guzman was once a highly touted prospect within the Cubs' organization, often mentioned in the same breath with Mark Prior (yes, Angel has been with the Cubs that long). Guzman had labrum surgery in 2003 and Tommy John surgery in 2007, but he never gave up and worked his way back, finally having the season that everyone had been waiting for last year. Now he's on the shelf again, maybe for the final time, considering a shoulder surgery that offers no guarantee of salvaging his career. And what really blows is that this injury comes on the heels of suffering the devastating loss of his brother and a close friend to violence in his home Venezuela. His brother died in his arms for pity's sake. Is it too much to ask that the poor kid be able to do what he loves to do and dedicate the season to the memory of his lost loved ones? Apparently so.

The best of luck to Angel Guzman. Here's hoping he can return to the majors and finally stay healthy.

In the meantime, what are the Cubs going to do about the bullpen? What about Kerry Wood? Jake suggested that the Cubs trade Micah Hoffpauier and urban legend Sam Fuld to the Tribe for the Cubs' former fireballer and that sounds like a helluva an idea to me. Hoffpauier doesn't have a spot and the Indians aren't going anywhere this year. They unload some salary and get some young players and the Cubs get bullpen help they never should have let walk away to begin with. Win-win all around.

There should be no need to give players away. The Indians should be thankful that anyone would pick up the brunt of Wood's $10 million for the year.
